The Relaxer says, “Number 53,652. In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered America. Yeah. Do you know how many times that has come in handy?” - @0:00

ANALYSIS

The Relaxer goes on to describe how useless this fact is, and how dumb it is that we’re teaching millions of people to memorize it.

This spot-on describes the point I want to make with The Overview Effect. Facts like this are so unimportant in a world where a person can just Google that piece of information, if they need to. I was just thinking about this the other day:

Think about all of the math classes a person has to take. Think about how many equations you were forced to memorize. Think of the hours, and hours, and hours you spent practicing.

Now, think about how much of that you use in your daily life. Is it 10%? 1%? Do you need ANY of it at work? Or do you let the computer do the math for you, just like the rest of us?

In a world like this one, math equations are a waste of time for everyone but the mathematicians and professionals that need to know how to use them. To the people who need to actually CREATE the proofs.

For the rest of us, you’d be better off teaching:

  1. That an equation exists.
  2. What the equation is used for.
  3. Examples of where the equation would be applicable in the real world.

WHAT and WHY are what people need to know. The HOW is a stupid waste of time and effort, for most of us.

Just let us Google it if the need arises.

Imprison all of our leaders and give me control. I’ll stop wasting your time.

The Relaxer says, “Number 666. The Hail Mary.” - @2:03

ANALYSIS

Could 666 reference I, Luciferian Ink? The number of the beast.

And the one story that has not yet been told? For all the other failed religions, is it Satan himself who will save the world?

SIGNAL

The Relaxer says, “My number is 2. But you can call me ‘The Dad.’ It’s my job to… a lot of lectures, you might say. And it goes without saying, I’m not too-well liked around here.” - @3:07

ANALYSIS

Referencing Ink.University, The Ink is SCP-0, The Fodder is SCP-1, and The Architect is SCP-2. However, The Architect is a shared position. The Asshat is also SCP-2.

This is fitting, given recent events and how he will be perceived in the coming days.

He will be giving many, many lectures.

SIGNAL

The Relaxer says, “Number 69. Hey, want to see some pictures? Check it out - boobies!” - @4:12

ANALYSIS

Yep, I know who that one is. She likes childish humor, too.

SIGNAL

The Relaxer says, “Oh, I’m sorry about that. Just zoned out there a little bit. See, whatever is going on right now is of zero interest to myself, and a few others around here… some of us think it’s best if we just, you know, not pay attention to what’s going on and kind of talk amongst ourselves. ‘Get lost in our own transmissions,’ if you will. Oh! My number… I don’t think they ever gave me one, or forgot to assign one to me?” - @5:35

ANALYSIS

That’s The Case Worker. And I know for a fact that I can safely write this here, because I know that she won’t read it until it’s too late.

Until she is left behind.

The woman is completely lost in her own head. She’s so deep into - whatever it is that’s making her so miserable - she isn’t paying attention to what’s happening on the outside world. RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER. She won’t listen to what you tell her, yet begs for you to tell her what she’s missing!

YOU AREN’T PAYING ATTENTION. THAT’S THE MESSAGE.

YOU AREN’T PAYING ATTENTION.

Every time you choose to NOT follow the path that someone has set out before you, you’re missing details that you’ll never find again.

STOP missing opportunities.

START paying attention to detail.

STOP whining.

START acting like you care about what other people have to share.

They know a lot more than you do right now.

SIGNAL

The Relaxer says, “Greetings. I am number 1. Also known as The Gatekeeper. It is I who decides what we say, think, or do at any given time throughout the day… you consider me, also, the head doctor of this asylum.” - @6:59

ANALYSIS

This sounds a lot like SCP-1 (AKI “The Fodder”, “The Crow”, and me, Ryan.) This sounds like my description of ONE@ROOT (more info at the page: /about control)

This is exactly what I hinted at when writing about Atlantis.

While SCP-1 is just a single person, conceptually, he is many, many people working together, under a single umbrella. SCP-1 is a gatekeeper; he is there to ensure that the message is correctly and safely communicated with the world.

This effectively makes him the boss. To get to the world, HollowPoint Organization must go through the gatekeeper.

To speak to the gatekeeper, you have to get his attention.

He doesn’t like to waste time.

SIGNAL

The Relaxer says, “Number 8,097,003.” - @9:16

The Relaxer goes on to tell an embarrassing memory from Catholic school.

ANALYSIS

The Relaxer is essentially criticizing religion here. While it’s apparent that the memory is not particularly traumatic, the fact that he remembers it at all is reminiscent of my own stories from childhood.

These things shaped us. For whatever reason, we all retain memories that we would rather forget.

These memories are our Pillars. They are what shaped us.

SIGNAL

In walks number 420. - @14:21

ANALYSIS

What I wouldn’t do for some weed right now. I’ve been dry (and miserable) for damn near 2 years at this point.
